Rev.Media Club Workshop featuring Brette Sims of Stuk Designs
Rev.Media Club is similar to a book club, while expanding its focus to include books, music, movies, poems, visual art, podcasts, zines, etc. highlighting journeys of radical transformation for liberation. We collaborate with different artists, librarians, educators, organizers, healers, and local changemakers to offer intimate workshops at local community-run spaces to share our journeys of transformation that sparked liberation - so together, we can activate that flame within you!
The aim of Rev.Media Club is to cultivate the following capacity-building skills:
Spark your radical imagination to envision and create different possibilities
Activate your own artistic creative expression to communicate what you envision
Integrate a critical analysis into your vision from revolutionary media you engage with
Cultivate connections and relationships through shared community-engaged activities
Prioritize time and energy towards collective joy and play
So if you and your homies have been wanting to learn and unlearn together, and are seeking a liberatory community of practice who wants to nerd out, create, and integrate Rev.Media, we hope you can join our next workshop!
Our first Rev.Media Club is a collaboration with Stuk Designs at Scrap&Sip - a creative nook in the heart of SF Mission district which offers a collection of unique crafting goodies and interactive events/workshops. Because this is an intimate space, we will only have 10 spots available for this workshop.
Our first Rev.Media Club workshop on Saturday Sept 13 from 5-7pm (Pacific) at Scrap&Sip features guest activator, Brette Sims, an Oakland visual artist and founder of Stuk Designs- a creative resource hub for teaching the practices of self love and art, and how it fosters a sense of childlike wonder for people of all ages. Brette shares the impact of spoken word poetry artists and the album of her birthday twin, Ms. Lauryn Hill, with the “Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” album that guided her revolutionary transformation for liberation. We’ll also have a “Gem Your Journal” integration activity for you to activate your creative expression through intentionally decorating your journal, sketchbook, spell book, or any notebook you use to express yourself creatively. We’ll provide some craft materials, with the option to also purchase unique supplies for decoration from the Scrap&Sip store and materials brought by the guest activators of this workshop.
Registration for this event ends by Friday Sept 12 at 11:59pm (Pacific).

Trailheads To Healing: Channeling Ancestral Remembering With Water
A community nature experience to commune with our ancestors through water
Time in nature is needed now, more than ever. In times of heightened uncertainty, rising political tensions, and an endless call to defend our communities' rights, your focus and attention on the larger world transformation can get lost. To balance your nervous system and spiritual capacity, we’ve curated a time in nature to pause and listen to the messages in the water and open the communication lines to our ancestors’ presence.
RSVP Here
We’ll guide you through a local park where the presence of ancestors (human and more than human) is amplified. Our container will facilitate the ancient practice of communicating with nature for guidance through your everyday life. Our focus this season will be on the element of water and its power to reflect messages from nature as we tap into our spiritual intuition.
The facilitation team will guide you through practices that use water for cleansing, release, rebirth, and connection. As we walk through the park, reflection prompts and light group dialogue will support your process. Modeled after the Rino Consulting Solutions Healing Hikes and Unlearning Community School’s Healing Justice framework, this community experience supports individual self-awareness and collective care strategies through a shared outdoor experience with Nature’s elements.
This offering is ideal for those who are newly emerging into a personal healing journey. No previous experience in nature/outdoors or spiritual practice is required. Those yearning to connect more deeply to themselves through communal practices and ancestral traditions by being in nature will benefit from this experience.
By the end of this experience, you’ll
learn practices and receive guidance for connecting to yourself more deeply in nature/with nature
remember the ancient practice of communicating with the elements of nature
be open to communing with your benevolent ancestors and receiving messages of guidance for what you are currently navigating in life
find a momentary pause through this emergent process to address trauma, grief, crisis, and violence (both historical and current) by listening intentionally to your heart and core needs for wellness
rebalance your nervous system through collective care practices and learn how to sustain well-being through ancestral traditions with Nature
develop a deeper reverence and relationship with the elements of nature and the local ecosystems as guides of your healing journey
cultivate more self-compassion so you can release any burdens and weights holding you back from personal liberation
This healing-centered exploration in nature is a collaboration between Rino Consulting Solutions and the Unlearning Community School.

Balikbayan Program: "Pagbabalikbayan: Pathways of reconnection through solidarity work"
Friday August 8 from 7-8:30pm (Pacific Time); Saturday August 9 (10-11:30am Philippines Time)
Online via Zoom (will be given link after registration)
REGISTER HERE: bit.ly/Balikbayan1
The Unlearning Community School is launching the Balikbayan Program which offers online story-sharing drop-in classes for all peoples in diaspora seeking connection to their ancestral roots and those building solidarity across communities. Our vision is to offer and harness ‘third spaces’ for collective learning, healing, and cultural and political education amongst members of historically marginalized communities. These third spaces—rooted in place, community-generated knowledge, and lived experience—are incubators for communities of practice, nurturing, belonging and solidarity that transcend boundaries of identity, generation, or circumstance.
The Balikbayan Program is not just a response to current needs, but a commitment to reimagining what is possible—now and in the future: cultivating joy, healing, and solidarity as everyday practices. Ultimately, we aim to spark a ripple effect, where the knowledge, relationships, and practices generated through our work help build bridges across our communities in which every person can thrive with dignity, joy, and a deeply rooted sense of home.
Our online story-sharing drop-in classes focus on the intersections and complexities of cultural identity and solidarity, specifically among Indigenous communities, those living in their homelands, and those who are Balikbayan or in diaspora as they seek to re-root themselves into and/or strengthen the embodiment of their ancestral lineage. Although Balikbayan is a Tagalog term from the Philippines which literally translates to “return (to) homeland”, these drop-in classes are not just for Filipinos in diaspora; these conversations are open to anyone seeking to reckon with, reclaim, return and reconnect with “home.” The online drop-in classes focus on:
Story-sharing through intentional conversations as a bridge to connect all peoples in diaspora with those from homelands.
We want to spotlight the journeys of those back home who are Indigenous, have Indigenous lineage, and/or work closely with Indigenous communities defending their ancestral homelands.
Humanizing the complex experiences and solidarity work of the diaspora, while also being in direct conversation with those defending our homelands amidst ongoing colonial violence and imperialism.
By cultivating these gatherings, we offer participants an opportunity to build and sustain authentic connections to themselves, their cultures, and each other—laying the groundwork for a broader movement towards justice and collective action.
Our first Balikbayan online class will feature Marian ‘Ayan’ Sanchez (she/they), who is part of the Unlearning Community School (UCS) as a Community Member and Co-(Un)Learner. Ayan is a Community Development worker, Indigenous woman, and self-taught visual artist. She is a board member of the Cordillera Women’s Education Action Research Center (CWEARC), a grassroots organization focused on empowering women through education, action, and research as a means for advocating and advancing the collective rights and self-determination of Cordillera peoples. Ayan is currently a guest at ᐊᒥᐢᑲᐧᒋᐋᐧᐢᑲᐦᐃᑲᐣ (Amiskwacîwâskahikan),Treaty 6 Territory, in Alberta, Canada completing her PhD in Public Health. She works with the Cordillera Poeples Alliance- Kalinga and the Sumkad para iti matagoan, para iti karbengan, daga ken dayaw Movement documenting local resistance to development aggression and articulating Indigenous land connection as critical health promotion.
Please join us and register for the event before Friday August 8 by 5pm (Pacific Time) or Saturday August 9 by 8am (Philippines time)

"Let Things Fall Apart: A Spiritual Initiation" Workshop
"Let Things Fall Apart: A Spiritual Initiation" Workshop
Sunday, January 26th
4pm-6pm PT
Virtual Zoom event
Registration link: https://bookwithRaynelle.as.me/workshops2025
* due to the intimate nature of this event, we will not be recording
Purpose
“Let Things Fall Apart” is a community-led workshop to acknowledge your spiritual initiation and offers tools to help you manage through the unraveling. In the Root To Bloom community, we understand that “when things fall apart” it’s not about being at fault for these hardships, rather we might consider how these trials are a message from the Universe that we are embarking on a spiritual initiation.
If you’ve been struggling through an overwhelming amount of challenging life experiences and circumstances, all the while managing the turmoils of our external world, join the fiercely loving Root To Bloom community for a moment of transformation to open your heart space to your true capacity to find meaning in your life.
In this workshop, we utilize the power of storytelling - an ancestral oral tradition for knowledge transfer and narrative change. Your facilitators will define what they've experienced as spiritual initiation and how they have blossomed through these moments. The intention of this workshop is to discover and share healing-centered practices through conscious relationship building, deep listening, and offer some key reflections so you can privately identify where you might be in your healing journey.
We’ll create a conscious community to allow our stories to be heard or listened to, provide some key reflections so you can privately identify where you might be in your journey, and then offer ways in which you can begin a deeper healing journey.
We’ll specifically address areas where a spiritual initiation may be showing up in challenging relationships, hitting roadblocks in your career path, and confronting misalignments with your practices and values.
*Please note, that this workshop is NOT designed to process trauma or challenges that may require more clinical or individualized support. We will not apply any healing modality or ask you to share anything too personal or private aspects of your life experience.
Rather, this workshop introduces the concept of spiritual initiation from life experience and traditional healing cosmologies that have supported your facilitators through their life experiences. There will be opportunities for you, as a participant to be supported while in a community setting with voluntary sharing and an open Q & A portion of the call.
By the end of the workshop you will
have a deeper understanding and spiritual perspective on life’s most challenging moments
an opportunity to reframe your position and perspective on turmoil, and gain some clarity on your life's meaning or purpose
engage in the power of storytelling and deeper levels of listening while hearing real-life examples of struggles and overcoming them through the concept of a spiritual initiation
utilize conscious relationship building with yourself and in the community as you begin unpacking where you are in your healing journey as preparation for what lies beyond the challenges you currently face
take home a workbook to accompany your private journey through self discovery and transformation

Event Two
Often times, surviving this world feels as if we are being forced to dim our light. That in order to fit in, we are told to hide essential parts of ourselves that do not fit the status quo. Or we are convinced that we must obey and submit to oppressive systems, at the cost of our authenticity, dignity, and integrity.
But, our light is a sacred part of who we are because it guides us back to our true selves, and is also a beacon to others. Our light shares and shows our spirit, soul, and humanity.
The Unlearning Community School wants to witness and spread your light with you. We want to illuminate one another, so the path to collective liberation becomes brighter.
"Spread Your Light!" is our next Unlearning Series event, as well as collaboration and grand opening of Spread Your Light Studios - an accessible community space in Downtown Oakland for events, workshops, and creative projects.
Meet us at Spread Your Light Studios on Sunday, January 19th, 2025, from 2pm-5pm at 339 15th St, Oakland, CA 94612.
Tickets are $35 sliding scale - proceeds will be shared with Spread Your Light Studios and the Unlearn Team as they build new offerings for our community in 2025. Register here
We have limited free tickets for artists, creatives, and makers who want to 'Share Your Light' during our Open Mic! This event is also a mixer to 'Connect Your Light' - meet, support, and link up with other artists, creatives, and makers during this event! The attire is cute and cozy! We will be serving teas, soups, and snacks! All participants will receive a goodie bag! Get ready to share your shiiiiine!
